True Detoxing vs. Fad Detoxing
We see alot of ads, products, celebrity news etc all catering to this current fad of detoxing. The ironic thing about this is that true detoxing isn’t a fad.
Its a lifestyle.
Its an important part of peoples lives. People who have made a dedication to living a healthy lifestyle. Its no different then making a commitment to treating others with respect, or having healthy eating habits. It effects your whole life. The reason for this is that a short detox gives you a little boost, but over time your simply going to get filled with toxins again. A lifestyle of avoiding toxins as much as possible gives a long term solution instead of a temporary feel good magic bullet.
True detoxing vs Fad detoxing – The differences
Fad detox diets
These diets have all sorts of extremes like only drinking lemon water for days, or only eating one kind of food. Or living off of only juice for a week. They are touted by celebrities as being a weight loss secret. Most of the data these claims are based on is factual. However, the implementation of the ideas and the results are a far cry from the truth.
True detox diets
The true detox diet is one that is integrated into lifestyle. True detoxiers choose organic foods as much as possible. They eat foods that support immune functioning as part of their regular diet. They eat healthy unprocessed foods. They drink special teas daily. They drink that lemon water too, but they do it for longer then a week. They do it until they want to try something else. And the water they use to make their drinks and juices comes from a home filtration system. Healthy eating and drinking as simply part of their life. They make a little time for it because they know that pay offs are huge.
Fad detox environments
They like to light some candles every night for a week and MAYBE clean/tidy up their house.
The problem? You guessed it, they don’t own any environmental cleaners and they didnt think to buy any. They cover their house with all the chemicals they are trying to avoid. They feel good that their house is tidy, but did they consider the mold growing in their fridges drawers? Not likely.
True detox environments
For true detoxiers the environment is clean with natural cleaners. They are always conscious of possible toxic outlets and removing them. They have alot of plants to help keep the air in their houses clean. They open windows even in the winter time to let fresh air into their homes.
Fad detox Exercise
Everyone knows exercising is an important part of detoxing. Fad detox exercise typically includes some light yoga and a bit of walking…for a week. Exercise is great but detoxing is about improving your immune system. Light yoga and walking aren’t going to make any notable difference. A short time line for exercising also wont.
True Detox exercise
True detoxers exercise regularly. They reap the rewards of being committed to their health. They do yoga, but its not light. They want to sweat because they know sweating helps eliminate toxins from their bodies. They don’t walk. They run or jog for the same reason.
Guys, Im all for people taking baby steps and doing things to as much of a degree as they feel comfortable and happy with. If someone just wants to detox for a week thats great. Healthy actions are healthy actions and a program like The Master Cleanse is a great way to get started or give youself an extra boost. But I just need to make it clear that those healthy actions are only a quick fix if they are not integrated into your life. If you did a detox to help yourself, why not continue to help yourself? Keep those toxins out of your body. Dont let them back in!
